Banana Bread Latte (hot or Iced)

There’s something nostalgic about the taste of banana bread. It’s warm, cozy, and just sweet enough. I wanted to turn that comfort into a drink, and this banana bread latte was the result.

Made with real banana, cinnamon, vanilla, and your choice of milk, this latte is both flavourful and functional. It’s easy to make, naturally sweetened, and perfect whether you enjoy it hot or poured over ice.

I first created this recipe for my On Its Last Leg series, where I cook with ingredients that are almost past their prime. That overripe banana sitting on your counter? You can turn it into a quick syrup and give your coffee a fun and delicious twist.

This latte is a small reminder that wellness is not about perfection. It can be about making the most of what you already have and enjoying food in a way that feels nourishing and joyful.

Try the recipe below and let me know how you enjoy it, hot or iced.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe banana mashed
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar or maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup milk of choice
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee or 1–2 shots of espresso

Instructions

  • Make the banana syrup:
  • In a small saucepan, combine mashed banana, cinnamon, vanilla, sweetener, and water. Simmer over medium heat for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the banana breaks down and the mixture thickens slightly.
  • Strain the syrup using a fine mesh sieve to remove any pulp. Set aside.
  • Assemble the latte:
  • For iced: Add ice to a glass. Pour in the banana syrup, coffee, and cold milk. Stir well and enjoy.
  • For hot: Warm the milk (optional: froth it). In a mug, combine banana syrup, hot coffee, and warmed milk. Stir and enjoy.
